The work “In The Love Garden”, like other works from the series “Man is the man`s wolf” by the young artist Inna Levinson, draws on popular medieval iconography. Hortus amoenus, the garden of love, offers a setting for the meeting of lovers who find happiness behind the red walls, in the shade of the trees. The classic motif, which Theocritis dealt with in his bucolic poems and which Rubens worked on, is playfully interpreted here.

Catoon-like figures are modeled from colorful plasticine and fixed with glass. Due to their materiality, the naive figures become volatile objects that can apparently be moved and reshaped at any time. The idea is that "given" art historical image is destabilized and lose it`s seriousness.

Inna Levinson was born in Ukraine, she lives and works in Berlin, her works were on view at BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt in Berlin, Ten Haaf Projects in Tokyo and at Volta NY in New York.
