Alexander Wolff
The work of Alexander Wolff has painting itself as its subject, although he repeatedly reflects on it from different approaches. As such, the examination of writing and typography is one of the recurring motifs of his artistic practice. A series of works titled "Character Paintings" is based on Chinese characters, painted with oil paint in an ornamental, decorative and sometimes psychedelic manner. The exhibition combines a work from this series with sewn textile paintings that explore basic elements of painting such as canvas, paint application, and line, and by means of their formal ambivalence create space for the in-between as well as for negotiation.
