Pascal Monteil

LA VILLA STUDIO visited Pascal Monteil in his beautiful home and studio in Arles, in South of France. Pascal recently came back to his hometown in South if France after traveling in Iran and India and we were happy catch up with him in the city which is currently becoming the southern art capital of France. The famous photography festival Recontre as well as art&tech festival ON Arles attract art pilgers, artists and collectors to this ancient town, also the huge mirror building of Luma Foundation will open it’s doors for studios and exhibitors in 2021.

 

Broderies are usually associated with female craftsmanship and unadventurous design. In contrast to this, Pascals woolen broderies are usually large scale epic works, which depict complex narratives. It’s easy to loose oneself in considering these works and discover much of violence and brutality in the colorful patterns which look so cheerful at the first glance.
